First Harvest of 2012

It's official! I harvested the first vegetable out of my garden this afternoon - a handful of spinach to add to our spaghetti sauce. The gardening season has officially begun!
(and, as you can see, the weeding season needs to begin as well . . .)

The brown and yellow tips are on the leaves that stayed on the plant over the winter; the plants that had started growing in the fall started up again as soon as the snow was gone. I would never have expected a spinach plant to survive our cold Wisconsin winters, but here's living proof that they do!

  1. Congratulations! This is when the hard work starts to pay off!

  2. That is pretty neat that your spinach made it through the winter. Enjoy!
